West Bay Lodge and Spa - Roatan, Honduras

We enjoyed a quick overnight stay here on our way home from Utila.

We pre-arranged airport transfers with the lodge, and they were there waiting. It was about a 20-minute scenic drive from the airport to the lodge. Check-in was easy. And it was only a short 2- minute walk across the street from the lodge to our 2-bedroom condo.

Since the entrance to the condo building was open, a guard was stationed there 24/7, but we never felt the area was unsafe at all.

Everything in the condo was clean, but a bit aged. A large jug of water with spout was available (most don’t drink the water in Roatan, either). Linens were fresh, and beds very comfy. Soap, shampoo, and conditioner all provided. The only issue we had was that the air conditioner units in the bedrooms couldn't cool below 75 degrees, but the overhead fans helped.

Main lodge has a small pool, and lots of plants and greenery.

PROS

  • Condo including breakfast was a good value for four of us.

  • Greeted with a free, HUGE and delish alcoholic punch.

  • Dinner (additional cost) and the included breakfast at Celeste's were both good and filling.

  • Short, 5-minute walk to the beach

CONS

  • Communication prior to arrival was poor. I had to email several times before I received an answer, and almost cancelled our reservation.

  • Beach area is very crowded and full of operators hoping to take you on excursions. I think we were approached at least 5 times during a 15-minute walk.
